"The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn"
~ Alvin Toffler
Ashanti Kunene is the founder of Learning 2 Unlearn, a published writer & public speaker and decolonial dialogue facilitator.
She holds a BA (Hons) International Studies Cum Laude from Stellenbosch University. Her research interests are the epistemological and epistemic emancipation of all humans from mental slavery and ignorance. Learning to unlearn is an ongoing journey. In doing this work of writing and curating social justice focused short courses, she seeks to help people (and herself) live braver, more authentic lives in a crazy world.
Learning 2 Unlearn requires us to challenge and subvert dominant values, mental paradigms and strongly held beliefs, we hardly question and seldom challenge.
Learning 2 Unlearn requires us to re-learn how to human.
Ashanti was a prominent student leader at Stellenbosch University during the 2015/2016 #FeesMustFall student movement. It was during this time that the idea for Learning 2 Unlearn was born because "when in the course of human events it becomes necessary, for any one people to dissolve the epistemic, political and economic bondage that connects one to another. When a long train of abuse is in use and with patience, pursues and invariably evinces a design to reduce a people to nothing. Revolution not only becomes necessary, it becomes a duty."
